Fool Hollow Lake Camping
The end of June we decided to skip out on the record breaking heat in Mesa and head for the cooler weather in Show Low, AZ. We hiked, camped, and canoed at the beautiful Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area before we had to return to the heat. Previous to this trip we had not taken A. canoeing and I was a little nervous about how it would go down. We ended up having so much fun canoeing. A. just sat in the middle at first and looked around then he decided to splash with his hands and feet in the water and then he decided to just jump in head first. Fortunately there was a little handle on the back of his life jacket so Matt was able to pull him back in before he had done more than get his head wet. I still consider canoeing to be a success and hope we get to go again soon.
Father's Day Weekend
In college I took a History of the Southwest and fell in love with the rich history of the Southwestern United States. Since then visiting the San Xavier Mission del Blac has been on my bucket list, so when we moved to Arizona it was pretty much the first place I wanted to visit. The Saturday before Father's Day we took a day trip down to Tucson to see the San Xavier Mission, checkout downtown Tucson, and to visit Biosphere2.
The San Xavier Mission was definitely my favorite part of the day but my second favorite part was the ice cream we had at The Hub downtown in Tucson. Downtown Tucson was kind of a mess because they are putting in a streetcar rail and it was humid so we didn't really feel like exploring too much but the ice cream made up for it all. In fact I sometimes think about going back to Tucson just for the ice cream. If you have been to Tucson you know it is a big deal that I am willing to actually go back for anything.
Next we headed off to the Biosphere 2 which in my opinion is just a really big green house. Biosphere 2 is where a group of scientists lived for 2 years studying the Earth systems inside the sealed facility. It was interesting to see inside but probably not interesting enough to pay the $20 per person to go on the 45 minute tour. I mention the price because when we were looking into visiting we couldn't find the price of admission anywhere online. Since we had already driven 40+ minutes to get to the middle-of-nowhere greenhouse we decided to just fork over the money and go. I suspect this happens to a lot of people.
My favorite part was the area representing the ocean. Matt's favorite part was seeing the machines that made it all work in the basement. A's favorite part was running down the above picture long tunnel to the "lungs" of the biosphere.
I also have to share the cake I made for Matt on Father's Day. Personally think it is the best cake I have ever made:)

Matt's Graduation
Matt graduated in May! The road to this day had a few more twists and turns then we expected but, it was the right road for us. There were hard times, many moments of growth and so much happiness along the way.
Why yes, those orange cords mean I'm married to a smarty pants ...just bragging:) We are grateful to all of our family members who came to support Matt on this big day. We loved seeing all of you and being able to experience the moment with those who helped to make it happen.
